City receives good audit report

Aug. 4 2016

The Enterprise City Council approved the 2015 audit of the city's $24 million budget. Hilton Galloway of Carr Riggs & Ingram gave the report and commended the city for managing funds well and maintaining a reserve. For more details, click on the following links.

Dauphin residents invited to ribbon-cutting

Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Enterprise City Council members invited residents of Dauphin Street to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a year-long rehabilitation and resurfacing project on the street.

The ribbon-cutting will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the corner of Dauphin and Alberta streets. The project began in June 2015 and included grading, drainage and curb improvements.

City leaders were joined by some residents of Dauphin Street Aug. 3 for the ribbon-cutting dedication of the newly rehabilitated thorough-fare. A $4 million project that included resurfacing, curbing and drainage improvements was recently completed. Mayor Kenneth Boswell commmended residents for their patience during the year-long project, but residenyear-long project that caused some inconveniences. Residents said they were proud of the new street that is not only beautiful but easier to travel. For more details, click on the news media links.

Employees enjoy appreciation picnic

About 300 city  employees and some family members were treated to barbecue pork and chicken and all the fixin's at an appreciation picnic last Aug. 12. The activities were cut short by thunderstorms, but employees did have a chance to savor the food and hear words of appreciation from Mayor Kenneth Boswell and City Council members. Boswell said the city's employees do their jobs well and are largedly responsible for the city's success. For more details, click on the links below.

Regional agent teaches canning class at Farmers Market

Regional Extension Agent Bridgette Brannon of Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, taught a class on canning pickled squash Aug. 16 at the Enterprise Farmers Market. She said while probably not as many people can now as they did in the past, but that the art and skill of canning is making somewhat of a comeback. She said more and more younger people seem to be interested in preserving fresh foods they have grown at home or havepurchased at a farmers

New Urgent Care facility opens in Enterprise

A third urgent care facility was welcomed to Enterprise last week with a ribbon-cutting for Ivey Creek Urgent Care. This is the third walk-in-style medical clinic to be established in Enterprise. Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the new facility is an indication of a growth trend on the south side of the city. For more, click on the following media links:

Mayor, ADECA director tear down

abandoned house

Jim Byard, director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affair teamed up with Mayor Kenneth Boswell Aug. 4 to operate the heavy equipment necessary to tear down an abandoned house on Ouida Street. The removal of the house is part of a $250,000 Community Development Block grant awarded through ADECA for demolition of more than 100 nuisance properties. For more, click on the media links.

Law enforcement, city and county leaders discuss improving police-public relations

Aug. 12, 2016

Enterprise Police Chief T.D. Jones, Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton, District Attorney, Tom Anderson, District Judge Chris Kaminski, Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Coffee County Commissioner Jimmy Jones were panelists Aug. 13 at the Community Relations Forum. Hosted by the EPD, the forum was organized in response to concerns voiced by several local citizens in the wake of the national tensions between the police department and the public. The panelists reviewed the responsibilities of their offices, answered questions and gave advice on topics such as safe traffic stops. For more, click on the following links.

School, city leaders break ground on new Coppinville Junior High School

Aug. 18, 2016

Enterprise Schools Superintendent Dr. Camille Wright, Board of Education President Dorothy Richardson and school board members were joined Thursday by Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell and city council members to break ground at the site where the new Coppinville Junior High School will be constructed.

Wright said the event marks a new beginning for the school, which has a storied history. The once all-black high school was constructed in 1959 and the first graduating class received diplomas in 1960.Wright and CJHS Principal David

West said the school's history will continue to be treasured even as this new journey begins. Wright said the groundbreaking is a time of celebration, and noted that the last time a new school was built in Enterprise, it was because of a tragedy.

Masons show support for city

Police Department

Members of the Masons of the Jubilee Lodge #922 in Enterprise presented the Enterprise Police Department with a certificate of appreciation and support on Thursday, Aug. 18. Chief T.D. Ground broken on fourth city fire station

Aug. 22, 2016

Fire Chief Byron Herring and Enterprise firefighters joined Mayor Kenneth Boswell and city council members to break ground on a new $1 million, 5000-square-foot fire station Monday. The new station, on the corner of Aviation Boulevard and the Boll Weevil Circle, will be the city's fourth station. Boswell said the addition will help improve response times to calls on the south side of the city and will help keep city residents' fire insurance ratings down. Incumbent Mayor Kenneth Boswell won re-election to a fourth term as Enterprise mayor. Boswell earned a total of 2,226 votes. His opponents Milton Shipman and Lister Reeves, received 1,192 and 931 votes, respectively.

The results of the Aug. 23 city elections were canvased by the Enterprise City Council Aug. 30. According to the votes, Incumbent Mayor Kenneth Boswell won re-election by 2,229 votes over opponents Milton Shipman and Lister Reeves. For more information, click on the following links:
