City getting ready for Christmas events

Nov. 13, 2015

With Thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas not far behind, the City of Enterprise is already getting in the spirit of the season by planning two festive events.

The annual Enterprise Tree-Lighting ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at City Hall, where the fresh, large city Christmas tree will be decorated and lighted for the first time.

Santa Claus will be taking Christmas wish requests after the ceremony that will feature music by the Enterprise State Community College Entertainers and an ensemble of elementary schoolers from Enterprise City Schools as well as an inspiring message by the Rev. Trevor Woolridge of Johns Chapel AME Church.

More details about this year’s tree-lighting festivities will be announced later.

Everyone is also invited to come and enjoy “Christmas at the

Farmers Market” on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Santa Claus will be making a return visit to catch up with local youngsters who want to tell him their Christmas wishes or perhaps just remind him about what’s on their lists.

Youngsters will not only get to talk to Santa, but they will get a chance to listen to the Christmas story, and spend the morning decorating their very own free Christmas ornament.

During the children’s activities, grown-ups can shop for winter produce, homemade goods and arts and crafts.

For more information about these two events, or if you are interested in becoming an arts and crafts vendor on Dec. 12 at the market, contact city Special Projects Coordinator  Kay Kirkland at 334-348-2310, kkirkland@enterpriseal.gov. Vendor space is limited, and Farmers Market rules will apply.

In addition to these activities, city leaders encouraged everyone to also attend the Tuesday, Dec. 1, Christmas parade, sponsored annually downtown by the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce. Should rain cause postponement of the parade on Tuesday, the parade will take place on Thursday, Dec. 3, and the tree-lighting ceremony will be delayed until Dec. 10.
