Tournament impact expected to be huge for Enterprise

The City of Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Dixie Softball State Tournament. More than 700 players and coaches are in Enterprise for the tourney, along with parents, relatives and friends who traveled with the away teams. Parks and Recreation Director Billy Powell expects the economic impact on the city to be significant as visitors stay in local motels, eat at local restaurants, purchase gas and shop at local retailers.

City approves half-cent sales tax to fund school requests, police and fire improvements

The Enterprise City Council Tuesday night voted unanimously to increase the city sales tax by a half-cent, raising it from 8.5 to 9 percent. Funds from the increase are designated for the Enterprise City School System and for improvements to the city's police and fire department. For more, please click on the following local media links.

Angela Lane, second from left, won the adult watermelon seed spitting contest with a spit of 20 feet, 11 inches. Farmer's Market vendor Steve Merritt was the winner of the Sweetest Watermelon Contest and Morgan Gallinger won the youth division in the seed-spitting contest with a spit of 16 feet, 9 inches. Enterprise featured on WTVY's 'Live at Lunch'

July 10, 2014

WTVY-TV's Devon Sellers, Chris Havely and the crew of "Live at Lunch," broadcast live from downtown Enterprise July 10. Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Parks and Recreation Director Billy Powell appeared on the show to discuss the latest developments in the city, including the Dixie State Softball Tournaments expected to bring more than 700 players and coaches into town the following weekend. Mayor Boswell thanked Ms. Sellers and TV-4 for visiting Enterprise and showcasing the City of Progress.

Local auto manufacturing supplier earns 2014 Chrysler award

June 10, 2014

Mayor Kenneth Boswell visited the Hwaseung Automotive Alabama manufacturing plant July 10 to congratulate President Harry Kim and the company's 400 employees for earning a prestigious honor.

HSAA was recently named by the Chrysler Group as its 2014 Supplier of the Year, Chemical Award. HSAA produces HSAA produces weather stripping, air conditioner and brake hoses for the Dodge Ram, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Cherokee, Dodge Dart and the Chrysler 200C. The Mayor said the company is much deserving of the award and he is proud of its rising reputation in the auto industry.

Sherrie Hardy gets well wishes on retirement

Sherrie Hardy retired last week from the City of Enterprise after 31 years with the Parks and Recreation Department. She served most recently as equipment and uniform clerk.

A reception in her honor Aug. 12 sent her off on a new journey in her life with a few tears from those who'll miss her everyday presence, and lots of joy and well wishes from her fellow city employees.

Director Billy Powell presented her with  a plaque of appreciation for her loyal service. She thanked everyone and said she will always love her "family" at Parks and Rec and the City of Enterprise.

Area leaders want Highway 167 to remain a priority for four-laning

Area mayors and local political leaders met with Department of Transportation officials Aug. 7 to express their desire for the Highway 167 four-laning project to be placed on a high-priority status. Recently, Gov. Robert Bentley announced that Highway 167 would not be four-laned anytime in the near future because of a lack of state funding for highways. Misty Tindol of Brunson, Wilkerson, Bowden & Associates presented the annual audit report to the Enterprise City Council Aug. 5. City tennis courts getting new surface

Enterprise Parks and Recreation Director Billy Powell announced this week that an extensive rehabilitation and resurfacing project is under way on the Donaldson Park tennis courts.

Work began earlier this week on the lower, four-court enclosure at the park. The two courts on the upper level will remain open for the next four to six weeks as work is completed on the first part of the project.  When the resurfacing is complete on the first four courts, those courts will be opened for play and the two upper-level courts will be closed until the total project is finished.

A gospel concert featuring some of the most popular Christian artists today and highlighted by a performance by a local community Mass Choir will take place in Enterprise Oct. 12. Mayor Kenneth Boswell, Enterprise Communications Director Jason Wright, and Chamber of Commerce Director Lisa Fenner were joined by Pastor R.C. Mullins of Union Grove Baptist Church and Minister of Music Craig Stringfield of First Baptist Church to make the announcement Friday morning.
