Area First Responders discuss

hurricane, disaster preparedness

at city-hosted meeting

     Representatives of 18 city and area emegency/disaster response and recovery agencies met July 1 at the Enterprise Farmers Market to discuss their interactive roles in the event of a major hurricane or other disaster.

    Brett Howard, the field representative for the Alabama Emergency Management Agency was among the guests who gave short briefings on the mission of their agencies and how they would implement response or recovery plans.

   Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the meeting was extremely productive because responsders were able to get acquainted and become more familiar with how they will

       "This is part of our ongoing effort to be as prepared as we can possibly be should we face another major weather event or some other catastrophic issue," the Mayor said.

Tartan Pines rezoning postoned until July 28

Townhouse District on hold until the next meeting, to be held at 4:30 p.m. July 28, because notification signage had not

been posted on the named property 15 days prior to the planning commission meeting.

Parks and Recreation Department explains new lightening detection system policy

July 10 2015

The Enteprise Parks and Recreation Department has installed ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems at the M.N. (Jug) Brown Center, the Enterprise Recreational Complex and Bates Memorial Stadium. Parks and Rec Director Billy Powell recently sent out a memo to coaches and others explaining how the lightning prediction system works what actions should be taken by coaches, parents and players when the system alerts them that lightning exists within the specified distance.

2014 City Audit:

'Very well done' report' shows 'positive year' financially

July 8, 2015

Hilton Galloway of Carr, Riggs & Ingram described the City of Enterprise audit as "very well done" and commended City Clerk Steve Hicks and his staff for a "most extensive management discussion and analysis." Galloway said literally that anything anyone wants to know about the city finances can be found in the audit report.

He said the city "had a good year" financially.

The audit for FY 2014, which spanned from Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014, outlines all financial activity, including cash and capital assets, bond ratings,  and benefits. Galloway said the city had no "findings" that would indicate the need for corrections or adjustments.

Good interaction results from EPD's first-ever 'Coffee With a Cop' 

July 21, 2015

For the very first time, the Enterprise Police Department hosted a "Coffee With a Cop" breakfast to encourage positive interaction between the police department and local community members. Police Chief T.D. Jones said he and Capt. Michael Moore, Lt. Jason Anderson and Sgt. Billy Haglund enjoyed meeting with citizens and answering their questions. For more, click on the links below: 

City rejects bids for new

Central Fire Station renovations

July 9, 2015

The Enterprise City Council July 7 rejected renovation bids for the old Action Buick GMC dealership building at 301 Plaza Drive. The buildings at the site are designated to be the new home of the Enterprise Central Fire Station, which will be moving out of the bottom floor of the Enterprise

 City Hall. Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the bids submitted exceeded the $800,000 originally budgeted project costs. The council agreed to rebid the project in hopes of receiving lower bids.

Personnel cuts

at Fort Rucker not as bad as could've been

July 8, 2015

Mayor Kenneth Boswell spoke to the media about his perspective on upcoming personnel cuts at Fort Rucker and the U.S. Army Aviation Center. U.S. Sen. Martha Roby announced earlier this montht that the Army determined Fort Rucker will lose 186 total Soldier authorizations by end of FY17 and an unspecified number of Department of the Army Civilians. While the United States Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) will lose approximately 68% of these 186 authorizations, multiple tenant organizations on Fort Rucker will be impacted and analysis is ongoing on which units will lose personnel authorizations.

The Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department hosted the Dixie Girls State Tournament July 12-15, but all of the "action" didn't take place on the softball field. Fabulous Fourth Friday recognizes, celebrates Police, Fire, Rescue personnel

The Enterprise Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Business Association's summer downtown festival. The theme for the July 24 event was a tribute to the city's first response units and personnel. Youngsters enjoyed climbing on and into police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and other first response vehicles. Adults enoyed asking qustions and interacting with first response personnel from the Enterprise Fire and Police Departments, and the Enterprise Rescue Squad. Planning Commission denies rezoning request in Tartan Pines

A proposed rezone of property inside the Tartan Pines subdivision was rejected by the Enterprise Planning Commission after an hour-long meeting during which residents expressed their opinions on the issue.

City water supply steady

Enterprise Water Department Field Superintendent Alan Mahan says city water conservation practices, citizens following watering rules and several rainshowers over the past couple of weeks are keeping the city's water supply stable for now.

City water meter replacement under way

Aug. 6, 2015

    The City of Enterprise Water Board will initiate a comprehensive water replacement program that will upgrade or replace approximately 10,745 meters to an automatic meter reading (AMR) system. The purpose of this effort is to upgrade the City’s water distribution system with an electronic reading capability and to replace meters that have served beyond their estimated useful lives.  work continues

on Dauphin Street Extention

The rehabilitation and repaving project on Dauphin Street Extension is progressing and the first of seven phases of work is almost complete. Each phase is expected to take 30 to 45 days and the entire project is expected to be completed in about nine months, depending on weather delays.

Enterprise Police Department

hosts National Night Out

Aug. 8, 2015

     Enterprise Police Department Clerk Samantha Leonard fingerprints Aubrey Ellis as part of activities for the EPD's National Night Out Oct. 13. National Night Out is an annual nationwide event designed to strengthen relationships in your neighborhoods, raise crime prevention awareness, and continue relationships with public safety; Police, Fire, CERT, and other emergency response agencies. The EPD hosted the event at the Enterprise Recreational Complex, where they served grilled hamburgers.

     Youngsters and adults 

 alike got to visit with EPD officers, play games and see the police cars and the police dog. Other agencies participating included the Enterprise Fire Department, Coffee County Sheriff's Department, Alabama State Troopers and the Fort Rucker Military Police.

WTVY-TV's "Live at Lunch" hosts Devon Sellers and meterologist Evan Chickvara visited the Enterprise Farmers Market Aug. 13 to highlight the city's new open-air facility. The TV-4 crew created a "set" underneath the shady, cool pavillion and broadcast the show live with Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Community Services Coordinator Birgit Briggs as special guests. Mayor, council recognize State Champions

Mayor Kenneth Boswell and the Enterprise City Council recognized two of the city's youth league State Champions Aug. 18. At the council meeting, Boswell presented each player and coach with a certificate of appreciation and thanked them for earning the championship titles in their age divisions. The teams were the Dixie Single A Youth Nationsl and the DixieYouth Ozone Rookies. For information and photos, click on the links below.

Longtime Enterprise firefighter retires

Aug. 27, 2015

Lt. Arnold Woodham, a 27-year veteran of the Enterprise Fire Department retired recently and was recognized by fellow firefighters and city employees at a reception in the City Council Chambers. Mayor Kenneth Boswell and Fire Chief Byron Herring presented Woodham with a plaque of appreciation for his years of service and his fire helmet. Boswell and Herring commended Woodham on his many years as a dedicated firefighter.

Enterprise proactive on hurricane preparedness

Aug. 28, 2015

Mayor Kenneth W. Boswell met with key city leaders and department heads Aug. 28 to review preparedness plans and ready personnel to take preventive action should Hurricane Erica’s path take a westerly turn as it moves into Florida.
