State of the City address

Enteprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell delivered his third annual State of the City address Thursday, giving a crowd of about 500 a comprehensive review of the city government in 2014 and a look ahead at the busy year ahead. Coppinville Road resurfacing under way

Jan. 24, 2015

Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the long-awaited resurfacing of Coppinville Road is under way. This is a much-used street that connects Highway 84 East and the Boll Weevil Circle near Wal-Mart. The project is being funded through the Alabama Tansportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Fund.

New Farmer's Market

School system gets BIG check

Mayor gives update

on various city projects

The status of several projects ongoing in the city was outlined by Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell for those attending the Feb. 3 city council meeting. The Lester Drive project is 85 percent complete, Boswell said. H and L Construction continues work on the $249,000 Lester Drive culvert replacement, which began at the end of last year. Two city garbage trucks destroyed by fire

The Enterprise City Council voted on Tuesday to rent a pair of garbage trucks after fire destroyed two city-owned trucks.

The fire began Saturday morning under one of the sanitation department’s Freightliner trucks at the Public Works Department. It spread to a second truck after a fuel tank on the first truck melted, Mayor Kenneth Boswell said during a specially-called council meeting on Tuesday. For more details, click on the links below:

Garbage service not interrupted by fire

"A Saturday morning fire created a “total loss” of two City of Enterprise garbage trucks but pickup service will not be interrupted, Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell said in a special called emergency city council meeting Tuesday."

Sub-freezing temperatures expected;

cold weather shelter open in Enterprise

Feb. 18, 2015

Sub-freezing temperatures are expected to be in the low 20s overnight for the next few nights. Consequently, the City of Enterprise has activated its cold weather shelter plan in conjunction with the Christian Mission Center on Geneva Highway, which is now accepting residents or others who do not have a place to stay during the cold weather snap. City of Progress once again

gets national ranking

The City of Progress has been honored again, this time as the top town in Alabama south of Auburn for Young Families to reside. Nerdwallet.com ranked Enterprise 18th best in Alabama in the category but far and away the best in the region with Opp a distant second at No. 38 overall. Mayor urges everyone to support Fort Rucker at Feb. 23 'listening' meeting

Feb. 22, 2015

In anticipation of sequestration this fall, Army officials will be meeting with local leaders and the public Monday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Post Theatre to hear support for Fort Rucker. The officials want to hear from the public about what Fort Rucker means to them and to the community. Mayor Kenneth W. Boswell encourages everyone to attend the meeting, which is extremely important to the economic future of the Wiregrass.

Police to discontinue alarm monitoring

Lester Drive

Feb. 19, 2015

Though work is not completely finished on the culvert replacement and repaving project on Lester Drive, motorists have found that the street is open to through-traffic once again. The street is a popular cut-through route from Glover Avenue at Alabama Power Company, to Lee Street. Some grassing and other final improvements are still under way at the site. Wiregrass residents 'wow' Department  of the Army

More than 1,600 people from throughout the Wiregrass packed the Post Theatre and Aviators Landing Monday night, Feb. 23, to share the Fort Rucker story with a panel of Department of the Army officials.

The 'listening' session with Brig. Gen. Roger Clautier, the Sgt. Maj. Robert Norvell and Col. Karl Konzelman spanned about three hours. Dozens of are leaders and residents were allowed to speak to the group about how the possible reduction of up to 3,000 jobs at Fort Rucker would affect them, their families and communities.

Sequestration's across-the-board cuts, made the law of the land by the Budget Control Act of 2011,  would draw down the Army forc es from a wartime high of 570,000 to 420,000 by 2019. Konzelman told the crowd the Army would be at its lowest strength since before World War II.
